Review: Mindmaps for the BlackBerry PlayBook

With a touch screen, we tend to look for more free flowing applications to help us in our daily tasks. While having a list we can look at is helpful, there’s something about a touch screen that has us looking for a more attractive way to visualize and manage projects, tasks, ideas and even goals. The BlackBerry PlayBook, to me, is the perfect sized tablet for making my To-Dos easy to read and easier on the eyes. Take away a physical keyboard (BlackBerry smartphone or computer keyboard that is) and it almost feels like I’m looking directly at what’s inside my brain (yeesh, I thought my bedroom when I was a kid was messy!). It’s just me and my noggin, trying to hash out ideas, making sense of the process. What a lot of people do is tap into the power of a mind map, whether it’s created on a black or white board, a notepad or a napkin.

Mindmaps allows you to do the same thing, except on your BlackBerry PlayBook and not on a mustard stained napkin. Not only does it help you keep track of the thoughts in your brain, but it also lets you manage the layout, colours and more. What was once a great idea may have to be put on the backburner. Mindmaps can help you move the idea around without having to scribble it out. There other mind mapping BlackBerry PlayBook applications out there, so let’s see how this one handles your crazy ideas.

Rumor: Nook Color 2 announcement coming November 7th to fight Kindle Fire

We’ve known for a while that Barnes & Noble intended a second model of its successful Nook Color tablet for later this year, as the original passed its first birthday this week. The Amazon Kindle Fire may have hastened the bookseller’s plans: multiple sources claiming to be Barnes & Noble employees are reporting that kiosks and other retail goodies are showing up in bookstores ahead of a November 7th launch. That would put the Nook Color 2 on retail shelves a week before Kindle Fires begin shipping out from Amazon.

An anonymous B&N employee tells The Digital Reader that his or her store is building a huge new display in the center of the store especially for the Nook tablets and e-readers. Spotlight, LCD TVs, touch screen demonstration kiosks, the works. A manager told him or her to expect a major Nook announcement on the 7th to battle the Kindle Fire. That’s a pretty unmistakable indication that we’ll be seeing more Nook news soon.

The biggest draw for the Kindle Fire is its rock-bottom price of $ 199, undercutting other Android tablets by hundreds of dollars and the current Nook Color by $ 50. That probably means that the Nook Color 2 will see a discount of at least that much, whenever it comes to market. The Nook Color currently runs a heavily modified and branded version of Froyo, and the Fire runs a likewise customized version of Gingerbread. The rivalvry between the two biggest player in the e-reader market is about to seriously heat up, and consumers will be on the winning side whatever happens.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 ? A decent Android phone

With the release of the manufacturer’s first Android based mobile phone Sony Ericson delivers a phone equipped with the largest display, fastest processor and largest camera, ever to date.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is comparable to Apple’s Iphone when looking at its dimensions, which are: 119mm x 63mm x 13mm. The mobile phone runs on a Qualcomm 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, which was first used in a phone by Toshiba, and recently was also used in the HTC Legend and Desire, which makes for fast running applications.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 has the largest display ever seen on a mobile phone running Google’s Android OS, and has a 4″ touch screen. The largest screen ever placed on a mobile phone is on the HTC HD2 Windows Mobile device, which is 4.3″in size. The screen is capable of displaying 480 x 854, and is reacts well to touch, but is not capable of multi touch. The phone is equipped with a 1500 mAh battery, which supports up to ten hours of talk time.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 supports social networking through use of Sony Ericsson’s Timescape application. The downside of this is the slow refresh rate of 15 minutes, which is to long for a social network application. The phone also has an older version of the Android version installed, which does not support all the features, the current version of the OS supports.

With the Xperia X10 Sony Eriksson has made a good first effort in delivering a mobile phone, with the intention of moving into a new direction. The main positive factors are the large screen, fast processor and more than adequate camera. However, the device needs work in the area of social networking, and support of the Android functionality. Many of these issues could be resolved through the announced software patches that will be released later this year.

Something You Should Know Before Buying a Cect Cell Phone

More and more people are aware of the CECT cell phones, more searches per day, and more products are putting on the internet. There is no doubt that CECT phones have a competitive value on the mobile phone market, with the inexpensive price and rich features presented, most of the CECT cell phones are considered as the Iphone clones, so you don’t need to worry about the design, because its always big touch screen, one button control, nice phone menu and some other iphone like features.
There are something you should consider before buying a CECT cell phone.
1.    Warranty Issue: CECT phone is manufactured by a leading domestic manufacturers of mobile handsets in China. So it’s considered as the “imported cell phone” by other countries, you can buy it easily on eBay or online stores, but not a local phone store around your area. So the warranty issue is what you should consider at first, most seller offer 1 year warranty issue.
2.    Games, software and firmware: CECT cell phones are not PDA, so there is no mobile OS installed like Symbian and Windows Mobile. So you can’t install software on it. And the firmware is not updatable as well, unlike IPHONE, the firmware can be updated easily. CECT cell phones didn’t come with this feature, so when you got the CECT phone on hand, you should understand that you can’t install software, applications and games on it, and the firmware is not updatable too, scalability is almost impossible.
There are many CECT phone models up to now, choose what you really need after reading the specifications, and consider the GSM frequency and warranty issue for the phone before you make a purchase.

What are iPhone apps, how do they work and how can they work for us?

In most regards, apps work pretty much like any other program. You can launch them by simply choosing their icon from the list on your phone. Once launched, however, you will begin to see the ways in which iPhone apps separate themselves from many of the programs you may already have on your computer or other smartphone.

Some apps offer the exact functions you would expect and probably already enjoy in other formats. Spreadsheet, typing and email clients are abundant on the iPhone and performance is typically more limited by the size of the screen than by any CPU or RAM limitations. Web surfing and instant messaging can also be handled by the app of your choice and there are many options for both product categories.

Due to the iPhone’s microphone, tilt sensors and touch screen, there are many apps that offer experiences that simply cannot be matched by any other device. One particular app, called Ocarina, makes brilliant use of the touch and microphone sensor on the iPhone. An ocarina is a flute like instrument that is played by blowing air and covering sound holes. On the iPhone, the sound holes are mimicked on the touch screen, and the microphone is able to sense air being blown at it. The result is a digital representation of an Ocarina that has seen great success in both sales and critical reception. Further illustrating the abilities of the iPhone, the Ocarina app also offers a feature where players can listen in on gameplay sessions from fellow Ocarina owners around the world. This kind of community experience has really changed people’s perceptions of iPhone apps and serves as an example of what the technology is capable of.

Whatever your need may be, there is likely an app that can help you address it. That said, many of the best iPhone apps are merely for entertainment and serve little actual purpose. There exists an app that visually simulates a broken screen on your iPhone. Why anyone would want such an app is questionable, but the value of having the option is very appealing to many iPhone owners. There is also an app that can identify any song playing on the radio simply by holding your iPhone up to a speaker.

If you are so inclined, you could head over to Apple’s iPhone app store and, within minutes be: giving yourself a breathalyzer test, waving a virtual lighter in the air, reading an e-book, playing a Sudoku puzzle, enjoying a game of Pac-Man, charting the route for your next car trip, purchasing airplane tickets or even watching your family pet through your home surveillance system.

We see that apps can not only make our lives easier, but can make our iPhone experience much richer and our travel through life all the more interesting. There are many thousands of iPhone apps, and more are being created and released every single day. With the only obvious limitation in these apps being the imaginations of the developers, it will take only time to see how apps will continue to shape our world and enhance our digital lifestyle.

How To Buy Your Own Android Phone

The Top Ranked Android Phones
It is nearly impossible to have not heard about the iPhone and the Blackberry. Most likely you have heard of the Pearl. Another phone on the market you may have heard of is the Android phone. It’s possible you haven’t realized, but the fact is the Google’s Android phones are all over the cell phone market! The reason is many different manufactures of cell phones chose to adopt the Android operating system into their phones. This means your choices for amazing phones are better than you probably thought they were. The top Android phones rank right up there with the other smart phones on the market. When you consider buying a new phone, here are some of the best choices among the Android phones.

The HTC Legend is high in demand. It was established as #1 by the website Know Your Mobile dot com. It is not the first Android phone on the market, but is definitely one of the most popular. It’s possible this is due to the alliance of the HTC user interface with the Android 2.1 operating system. The screen is a touch screen and is a hair larger than three inches in size. One of the coolest features is the control it offers. It is often compared to a track pad or joystick style of control. It also has Wi-Fi capability as well as GPS.

One the in-demand Android phones is the HTC Desire. The Nexus One handset, produced by Google, is available with this Android phone. Essentially, the HTC Desire is an enhanced version of its original model. It has a display screen that is nearly four inches big and uses an Amoled WVGA display. It comes with a snapdragon processor that uses the Android 2.1 operating system. This phone also enlists the use of Adobe Flash (the 10.1 version). The screen is a touch screen and utilizes joystick and track pad technology to aid the user in operating the system.

The Acer BeTouch E400, a rather popular cell phone, runs the Android software. This phone uses the 2.1 Android software platforms. If you want to get technical, it is essentially a smart phone. Touch screen users benefit with more than three inches of screen (3.2 to be exact). The width is no less than twelve millimeters. In addition to GPS, a 600MHz processor and Wi-Fi capabilities, the Acer Company has also installed their own user interface to parlay the Android system. You will not find many reviews on this phone, as it is still fairly new. The Android system, developed by Google, is helping cell phone manufacturers compete with Apple’s iPhone. The Android is known to be Apple’s top competitor and it is the reason other cell phone providers are able to offer an equivalent smart phone to consumers who desire an upgrade from their current phone to something more intelligent and refined. The fact is cell phones are now used for a lot more than just making calls. Today they take photos, play tunes and give you a connection to the Internet. If you desire an upgrade for you’re cell phone but are uncertain if the iPhone is suited for you, the Android powered phone is a viable alternative.
