Sony Ericsson commits to Ice Cream Sandwich for all current phones

Following the flurry of excitement after the release of the official Ice Cream Sandwich source code yesterday, Sony Ericsson is assuring its customers that every Xperia phone made in 2011 will receive an official update. That includes the Xperia arc and arc S, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo and neo V, Xperia mini and mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active, Xperia ray as well as Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. Of course, not all models are available in all markets.

Sony didn’t give any timeframe on when to expect the updates, but for those who bought their phones on contract, remember that they’re largely contingent upon carriers’ cooperation – a particularly belligerent carrier might choose not to update their phone at all. Other major manufacturers are quoting between six weeks and four months for the first ICS updates, but given the unfortunately spotty history of Android rollouts, it may be quite a while longer before some see any new software. Sony’s reputation on the matter isn’t the best in the Android business, but it’s far from the worst – we’ll see how Sony’s proposed acquisition of Ericsson affects software development.

Sony joins the major Android manufacturers in reiterating to its customers that they’ll be seeing Ice Cream Sandwich at some point. HTC and Samsung have promised updates for those devices that can handle the increased system requirements, and Motorola said that phones running ICS would begin appearing just six weeks after the source code was released. (For the record, that’s right around New Years’s, Moto. Just sayin’.) If you’re brave and at least reasonable technical, community-authored ICS ROMS and mods should begin appearing this week, with more stable and reliable versions to follow.

Non-US DROID RAZR phones will have unlockable bootloader

d9ab89116655x5401.png1 Non US DROID RAZR phones will have unlockable bootloader

Here’s some good news for prospective Motorola RAZR owners: the phone will have an unlockable bootloader. Unfortunately this doesn’t apply to United States DROID RAZRs – Motorola is giving carriers the option to disable the unlock feature, and Verizon has jumped on the chance. Just to be clear, the phone is known as the DROID RAZR in the US and the Motorola RAZR elsewhere. Commence your cursing now, Verizon customers.

An unlocked bootloader is an essential part of the modder’s toolbox. Without it, it’s impossible to get a custom Android kernel onto a phone, which means that modders are limited to the latest version of Android that Motorola (or the carrier) is willing to provide. The last time that Verizon offered a Motorola phone with an unlocked bootloader was the original DROID over two years ago, though some Samsung and HTC models are (inexplicably) unlockable.

If you’re smitten with the DROID RAZR’s lusty hardware, don’t despair. Even without an unlocked bootloader root and custom ROMs are possible, it just takes a little more effort, and some of the higher-level customizations aren’t available. Keep in mind that it’s always possible, and in this case even likely, that someone will reverse-engineer the international unlock method for United States DROID RAZR owners, opening up the path to full custom ROMs like CyanogenMod, or even more exciting, early versions of Ice Cream Sandwich. If anyone is up to the task, it’s Android hackers longing to set some high-end hardware free.

Motorola’s new universal Lapdock 100 plays nice with all Webtop phones

DROID BIONIC users were none too thrilled when they learned that the laptop dock didn’t work with the same accessory from AT&T’s Atrix. Now Motorola has removed that little wrinkle with the Lapdock 100, a universal laptop dock for all upcoming Webtop phones including the Atrix 2. Even better, it’ll be compatible with the older Motorola phones as well.

21bfbd9e91cebook.jpg Motorola’s new universal Lapdock 100 plays nice with all Webtop phones

Motorola skirts the physical docking problem with a more traditional cable that plugs into the ports on the side of the phone. This makes for a less integrated unit, but the cross-device advantages should be enough to offset that in the minds of most consumers. Some phones, like the BIONIC, will need an OTA software upgrade to use the new accessory. The Lapdock 100 keeps the 10-inch screen and dedicated Android buttons from the previous docks. The manufacturer is claiming five hours of battery life for the Lapdock, and users can connect to the Internet via Wifi or cable tethering with their device.

AT&T will be the first to sell the Lapdock 100 on October 17th. Other carriers with Webtop-enabled phones will follow later this year. Pricing, alas, is not available, but at least you won’t have to wait long to find out. The device keeps one of the coolest features of the original, a full desktop-style Firefox browser and screen mirroring of its connected smartphone.

SanDisk Announces 64GB MicroSDXC for mobile phones

SanDisk has been busy stuffing as much storage as possible onto something as small as a fingernail and today they’ve announced the 64GB MicroSDXC (extended capacity) cards for mobile phones. I know many users myself included have been using plenty of cloud storage options lately but having a 64GB MicroSD would really be awesome and I can’t wait to get one in my hands. It will be known as the SanDisk 64GB MicroSDXC “Mobile Ultra” card.

e96f1c7b7a40x465.jpg SanDisk Announces 64GB MicroSDXC for mobile phones

I don’t see any speed class rating on the card but most likely it will do just fine. I’ve found most SanDisk cards perform the same or better than many 3rd party options with a high rating anyways so I’ve always just stuck with SanDisk myself. Many current smartphones on the market only offer SDHC support (up to 32GB) and many phones probably wont work with these new SDXC cards yet but I’d sure love to try on all my phones I have lying around.

While SDXC was announced back in 2009 I’ve yet to see phones that official support the platform so we might have to wait for more details from manufacturers unless some of our current phones already support it. Most spec sheets list SDHC as that is what is readily available. SanDisk has mentioned the 64GB SDXC cards should be available starting next month for the low low price of just $ 219. A high price to pay indeed but I’m sure some users will jump at the opportunity. Kingmax announced the same capacity micro’s earlier this year but aren’t for sale so SanDisk will be the first to market as usual.

Would you pay $ 219 for a 64GB MicroSDXC card for your mobile phone, or would you rather just get by with a 32GB until prices become more reasonable?

Video Content in Cell Phones and Other Mobile Devices

Mobile internet costs

Take a look at US telecommunications giant – Verizon.
Verizon Wireless and other big mobile operators like Sprint Nextel have spent billions of dollars building 3G multimedia networks, and now they have to generate revenue through new services such as paid video. Certainly, these
3G networks are also ideal for carrying other data services such as mobile e-mail and different mobile applications. But using them to deliver music and video content wirelessly is a much easier concept to sell to consumers.

According to IDC, only 6.9 million, or 3 percent, out of 230 million mobile-phone subscribers in the U.S. are expected to view video on a mobile device by the end of 2006. And even though that number is expected to grow, analysts don’t believe mobile TV watching will hit the mainstream anytime soon.

By 2010, IDC predicts that only 9 percent of cell phone subscribers in the U.S. will tune in to TV on their mobile phones.
( posted by news.com )

Verizon take additional $15 per month for its mobile-video services and I think that for the most people it is still expensive. May be in the future this mobile video services could be based on Mobile Advertising platform and mobile Ads revenues can close investments and other costs.

As a matter of fact, in February had launched the first mobile Ads for the iPhone.

Ad Infuse is serving up ads from Esurance and the Partnership for a Drug-Free America on several sites, including Health & Fitness Mobile for Men and MondoMedia.com. (posted by news.com).

The Ads effect in iPhone was not good, because the tester had to wait 5 min Ads downloading process. The main problem was a slow internet connection in iPhone. It could be better, if mobile infrastructure can tune mobile connections and mobile video stuff.

Mobile video content quality

The other basic aspect to win new customers in mobile multimedia niche – the quality of mobile video content.
Sure, that all people would like to watch videos only in good quality, they are all take care of eyes!

We are talking about DVD length movies for iPhone or cell phones.
Good quality video content take a lot of time for encode-decode video in appropriate mobile video format with the best video / audio options for different cell phone models.

Any way, it’s a lot of work (time and money) for companies, which deliver this ready video content to mobile carriers.
Another alternative for mobile fun is YouTube mobile service. It’s free for use, like YouTube web site version, but they are only amateur videos and other video stuff, but also here exist a lot of limits, e.g. your cell phone need to support RSTP data streaming protocol, your mobile carrier must provide RSTP internet connection and so on. I am talking now only about US and Canada for other world this service is too expensive and now a day not supported from mobile operators.

So, a good quality mobile video content is additional investment for mobile operators, who want to take a big part of pie in this mobile niche, but it’s still in development process!

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

We have also other alternative to watch videos in cell phones, this aspect we discuss here.

In Internet you can find a huge of software and online video solutions.

I am convinced, that today this method (for watch video content in cell phone) use 90 % of people in the world, inclusive USA and Canada.

If you use software solutions, it takes a lot of time to find your favorite video, convert it in appropriate mobile video format (e.g. 3gp video format) and than transfer converted video to cell phone (via Bluetooth or USB cable). Well done! After all this steps you can watch this video in cell phone.

Basically, software solutions are difficult for normal internet user and you have to purchase it.

The main difficult position, using software video convert solutions is to know all video / audio options for converting video (video bit rate, audio bit rate, video size etc.). For example, for 60 min DVD movie you will spend 25-30 min of time if you know the right video convert options plus memory in your cell phone.

Other negative aspect is available memory in your cell phone for store converted videos content.
Sure, that memory in cell phone is limited factor and therefore it is disadvantage for most of us.

It’s not a secret, that everyone would prefer to use mobile video content in cell phones and iPhone, saving the time and money at the same time!

Now this perfect solution for mobile video content search many companies!!!

In the next time, we will discuss the great aspect, how to watch videos in cell phones, iPhones without spending much time for convert videos to cell phone and store it in mobile phones, do not thinking about memory space!

Stay tuned – we will write new reports!

Troubling New?spam? to Cell Phones Discovered

Troubling new”Spam” to Cell Phones Discovered

In a day and age when spam is rampant on the internet, now our phones, especially cell phones through text messaging are now the target.

With the advent of auto-dialers, autodialler, or automatic calling unit is an electronic device that can automatically dial telephone numbers to communicate between any two points in the telephone, mobile phone and pager networks. Once the call has been established (through the telephone exchange) the autodialer will announce verbal messages or transmit digital data (like SMS messages) to the called party.

A key technology for autodialers is the ability to detect live human pickup and answering machine. Since there is no indication/hardware signal when a call is answered by an answering machine or voicemail system, autodialer systems have to analyze incoming audio in order to make a prediction. Today, there is no algorithm that can achieve 100% accuracy.

Telemarketer Auto Dialer

An enterprise grade dialer must provide two key features. First, it must be capable of making large number of simultaneous phone calls; and second, it must provide an application programming interface (API) for system integration. Almost all enterprise grade autodialers employ computer networking technology, since voice boards have fixed number of ports and cannot be scaled up. In order to make 2000 simultaneous phone calls, for example, a group of computers have to be linked together to provide the support for that many phone lines.

Some advanced enterprise dialers are distributed dialers, i.e., independent dialers that are linked together through the Internet and controlled by a call dispatching program. With distributed computing, there is virtually no limit on scalability. All distributed dialers, by definition, can be accessed remotely.

PC to Phone Auto Dialer broadcast voice messages like a robot. It is ideal for group event reminders, marketing or political campaign promotion, events notification and more. Excel spreadsheet interface makes it easy to create or import any phone list. Simply record your message in an audio file and then use the built-in calendar to set a call time with built in remote access capability.

As an internet marketer of Your Travel Buddy Vacation Rentals, a free vacation rental directory and Fortune Hi Tech Marketing and Zurvita home based businesses, I am troubled by this. Why am I troubled by the use of auto dialers? For one, I now receive and average of 6-8 calls per day to my personal cell phone from every home based business opportunity on the internet, and this is new technology. Wait another year as this service becomes more popular, you can bet an internet marketer such as myself can expect hundreds of calls a day!

But internet marketers are not the only ones that we be affected by the use of auto dialers. Just like email lists for spam, they will be companies that sell phone numbers for the purpose of making money selling lists to these new phone spammers.

What if your phone is on the “NATIONAL, DO NOT CALL REGISTERY”? Well it does not seem to matter as my cell phone has been on the registry since its inception and I still get blasted.

These services state in their advertisements that their “lists” are scrubbed against the National Do Not Call Registry, and there is no fear of being in violation is utterly false, I am a prime example.

The newest version of the auto dialer is to allow spam through text messaging. URRRG. I am snot sure how to combat this new form of spam, but I can tell you that it is going to get worse.

I only recourse will be to remove my name, number and email address from all my promotion material for my home based business and change my phone number and hope that people that want to join my home based business opportunities can find me.

Here is a copy of a “spam” email message I received about “spamming” cell phones through text messaging”
